I've read a zillion such novels but this is a new author to me. And wow! Now I'm going to have to purchase all of her books to read! Predictable? Sure--aren't they all to some extent? But great H/h especially H. And great, HOT sex scenes. And I thought the scene where she catches him "pleasuring" himself was quite creative--never read that in any other book before. I don't understand some of the reviews knocking this book as soft porn. Of course it is--that's why a lot of us read these kinds of books. We LIKE steamy scenes. If you want "sweet" there are plenty of those on amazon--find one you like and use the related books section to find more. But if you want steamy, well, start here! Well done, author!

Accidentally Compromising the Duke Wedded by Scandal Book 1 edition by Stacy Reid Romance eBooks Reviews
Well written story that grabbed me quickly and kept me involved from beginning to end. Character development is very good, I loved the strength and vlnerability of the h and stoic, deeply hurt and honorable and untimately likable H. The story itself was interesting, full of curves and small twists which made it believable. The relationship between the H and h sizzled with sexual tension from the start and explodes with sensuality and some sizzling sex which is why I assigned the story a 4.35 and gave it a sexy rating of 4.5. This is the first book I have read by the author (who was recommended by a great blog) andt I had just bought another book by her.
You are so fab Stacy, I've missed romance like this, you have taken the heart of romance as it is meant to be and run with it into our arms and minds, your story was a pleasure, it gave me the joy, like the romance in the 80 and 90's did, the h was lovely, strong, caring and lovable, the H strong proud and kind in his imperfections. The passion was divine and the writing a joy. You did not waste time on being overly verbose you gave a story with clean voice that was enjoyable in every way. Thank God your h was not a spoiled little biatch with attitude and some feminist bs that does not belong in historical romance. Please please do not change your formula to conform, you are a treasure. Thank you.
What?!! Going off all of these positive reviews I was dying to read something by this author. Her books are very pricey. I had to really treat myself to this, waiting for one to come down in price a bit. I knew within barely a quarter through that I would be very disappointed. First of all, why so short? It was practically a little more than a Novella. What does everyone see in this? I just couldn't bring myself to give it three stars. It never picked up and was just totally predictable. A more unexciting heroine or hero I can't even think of. If I had to read one more scene with the dopey heroine romping around with the hero's children I think I would have been sick. This was the first book in a really long time that I just could not tolerate finishing. I got close. I just couldn't read the last ten or fifteen pages believe it or not. It was just that pathetic for me. Could the silly, desperate heroine throw herself anymore at the boring hero? Not possible. Even the love scenes were stupid in the fact that first he wouldn't touch her and then once started, he made up for lost time by being totally oversexed and couldn't keep his hands off of her and she went from a virgin to a sex kitten with little inhibitions. What?
Reminds me of a recent Julia London book I just read which was equally as bad where the desperate heroine threw herself at the hero for the entire book. I have been trying out some new authors, and one which blows this one away is Kerrigan Byrne. Want to read a good, and very promising new author, try Byrne and read "The Hunter" or "The Highwayman." Anything by Byrne is better than this actually and she is not even a top favorite. Try Eloisa James. "A Duke of Her Own " is one of the best books I've ever read or the great Elizabeth Hoyt. This was not worth your time. It was an exercise in typical, predicable boredom.
This was a pleasant read.
Characters
I liked the characters. The heroine, Adeline, is considered plain at best by current standards of beauty. Combine this with her meager dowry and she is not at all what her social climbing step-mother wants. Those of us who aren't raging beauties or super rich get this.
As the story progresses, we see her kindness with duke's children. Her understanding of their loss, and her attempt to be there for them. Losing her own mother has well prepared her and makes all of it believable.
I also like that she's willing to figh for the duke's love. She is not some shy meek miss. She tries to tempt him, both in heart and body. I also like that she isn't shy about her sexuality and the steam scenes, which are quite good, aren't the same sweet missionary style. There is real passion.
The Duke of Wolverton, Edmond, is considered mad because he loved his wife and grieved desperately for her when she died. I liked that about him. He's no fop, loves his children, and does a fine job managing his considerable stayed. He is also very active in politics, and is shown upholding his ideals on his own lands.
He upholds his honor and that of Adel. All he asks in return is that she be unfailingly honest with him.
I loved that he said screw it to society and spent the social events with his wife. Danced only with his wife. Showed her kindness, and helped her with her new role as a duchess.
The other supporting characters, such as Edmond's mother, were all well done. They felt believable but stayed in the background. The unpleasant step-mother trope worked and wasn't overdone.
Plot
While Adel would be happy with a comfortable friendship marriage with Mr. Atwood, when she receives an offer for marriage from a cruel and lascivious earl, her step-mother pounces. A terrific match for Adeline, a jump up the social ladder, a way to improve the step-mother's daughters' marriage prospects.
I like that Adel is smart enough to see this for what it is. And see her stepmother for what she is. And that she's willing to take matters into her own hands.
So, Adel plans to be caught in a compromising situation with Mr. Atwood without telling him first so that she must marry him.
In the meantime, her best friend and co-conspirator is told she is to marry the mad Duke. Desperate to change her lot, she sends Adel to the wrong room.
Hijinks commence, and Adel has compromised the Duke and herself. The Duke is looking for a mother for his two girls, and while he had decided on her friend, honor forces him to marry Adel. I liked this about the Duke. He could've left her to fight off the cutting remarks and being a social pariah. As a rich and powerful Duke second only to royalty, he clearly had the upper hand. I also like that the only thing he asks if her is honesty.
When everyone, even Mr. Atwood, rejects Adel, the only one left is Edmond. And even when he could slight her, he doesn't. And he offers for her again. Which she accepts.
Now married, the rest if the plot revolves around his absolute fear of impregnating his new wife as his first wife died in childbirth.
This felt a bit stretched to me, but having never lost a wife to having my child, I give it a pass. Just know this is the extent of the plot.
Other
Steamy scenes are well done
Romance progresses believably
I love that he holds to his promises to his daughters
Nice, easy read. I liked the characters and I wanted to see them get together in the end.
